The Sukanya Samriddhi Account Yojana is launched by Narendra Modi; the Prime minister of India. It is launched to ensure the welfare and encourage the development of girl child. It offers financial security, education and marriage expenses to the girl child. The scheme has been a huge success on the individual masses for which it was designed due to the financial security and independence that it provides the girl as well as her parents and guardians. With the logo ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ the girl child prosperity scheme is a huge success in many parts of the country including Agra.
The Sukanya Samriddhi account yojana SSAY could be opened anytime till the girl attains the age of 10. After that, the scheme continues for 14 years. The account matures after 21 years of the opening date. The facility to open account in this scheme is available in any post office or authorized bank. The opening of account requires submission of birth certificate of the girl child and a minimum amount of Rs 1000.thereafter, a minimum installment of Rs 1000 is to be maintained every year with deposits of Rs 100 done anytime. The maximum limit of amount in the account is Rs 150000 per year.
The Account is transferrable anywhere within the country. A legal guardian of the girl child can open the Sukanya Samriddhi Account anytime till the girl attains the age of 10 years.
The department is likewise planning to expand the camps in rural areas soon since an aggregate of 32,451 records have been purportedly opened till November 28 in 354 post offices of the APD. The plan is trending high time in Agra Postal Region (APR) which is classified into eight divisions along with APD. Till November 28, an aggregate of 1, 44,329 SSY records have been opened in 3041 post offices of the APR. The division was able to collect around 80 crore Rupees in less than one year.
The number of camps is increasing all time due to the constant efforts of department officers giving special attention to the rural areas. The awareness is undertaken emphasizing the importance of SSAY as the assurance of bright future for the girl child. Ensuring erstwhile education and carefree marriage expenses are the motto of SSAY; effectively relieving the parents and guardians of the girl child.
The rate of interest on the Sukanya Samriddhi account is 9.2%. The account matures after 21 years since the date of commencement and could be closed when the girl attains the age of 21.
‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ is the attempt to change the mindset of discrimination against the girl child and ensuring her safety and wellbeing.
